Society News

JULY 2025

Greetings from the Wheat Ridge Historical Society, Hope you’re surviving this long, hot summer. One good way to remain cool and informed is to stay inside and peruse the attached summer issue of the WRHS newsletter, Whispers from the Woodbine. It’s got news you can use and a quarterly calendar you can post so you won’t miss any WRHS activities or events! Speaking of activities, the Historical Society is offering a new history writers’ support group. Whether you’ve researched your ancestors and consider yourself an amateur genealogist, or you just enjoy collecting funny stories told around the dinner table –– this adventure is for you! Group members will find support and answers to questions they pose (we’ll leave critiquing to other groups!). Our purpose is to get those writing projects that have been “back-burnered” brought to the front and cookin’! Read all about it in the attachment “History Keepers Intro Letter”. Meanwhile, read all about it in the newsletter, and let us know what you think! All our best, Marta Hedde, WRHS Publications Director, and the WRHS Board of Directors

JANUARY 2025~ I would like to thank everyone who made our 50th Anniversary year so successful. Our members have done a great job bringing local history to our guests! In 2024, we won a 55th Anniversary Plate from the Carnation Festival for the Most Creative Entry. Our society was featured in the Wheat Ridge Living Magazine. The photos their wonderful photographer took are amazing. We actually made their year end edition as well. The Wheat Ridge Historical Society also won The Norm and Ethel Meyer Award. It is given each year by the Jefferson County Historical Commission (JCHC) to an individual or organization fostering and supporting historic preservation in Jeffco. This award was given to the Wheat Ridge Historical Society while we were celebrating 50 years of preservation support dedicated to Wheat Ridge’s heritage. We also are pleased to announce that the Wheat Ridge Historical Park and Baugh House were designated Jefferson County Landmark properties on June 3, 2024. What a wonderful year! We will continue to grow and thrive with your support, so won't you join us this year and help our continuing efforts to preserve and present local history. -- Janet Bradford   WR Historical Society President
